Salicylic Acid Review

Acne is a serious problem to many people around the world, and the pharmaceutical industry has invested millions of dollars into researching products that can help cleanse acne from the skin. The salicylic acid enters the pores of the skin and cleanses it from the buildup of dead skin cells that tends to clog the pores of the skin. When the skin pores are clogged by dead skin cells and oils; that is when the P. acne bacteria takes effect and pimples begin to break out.

One benefit of using salicylic acid is the fact that using it does not affect the production of the oil that protects the skin and kills the P. acne bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide does restrict the ability of the skin to produce the oil that protects it, but salicylic acid does not. In order for it to be truly effective, it is necessary for the salicylic acid to be applied to the skin even after the breakout of acne has been controlled. If you stop using salicylic acid, the skin will return to its tendency to clog up and you will break out in acne again.

It is important that you apply an even layer of the cream or lotion that contains salicylic acid to your skin, as it is only effective if it applied to the affected area of the skin. You should apply it in a thin layer to every area of your body that has pimples present, but only use it on the affected areas. Using salicylic acid on the affected areas can help to cleanse the pores from the buildup of dead skin cells and oils, and can help clear any microcomedones that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

There are a number of side effects that many experience when using salicylic acid, but they are usually fairly mild ones:

• Stinging or burning skin
• Irritated skin
• Dry, flaking, or peeling skin
• A rash (if your skin is particularly sensitive)

While these side effects may seem serious, they are easily combated by using a moisturizing cream to nourish your skin. You must be sure to use moisturizing lotion that is free of oil if you want to keep your skin free of acne, but it can easily help to clear up any of these side effects of using creams, lotions, gels, or unguents containing salicylic acid.

There is a risk of using salicylic acid during pregnancy, and you should check with your OB/GYN before using salicylic acid to help clear up your acne.
