Using Doxycycline For Treating Acne

Many people do suffer from moderate to severe cases of acne and this experience can be truly devastating. Pea-sized lumps associated with redness on the skin are just a few of the most common traits of moderate to severe acne, and these don’t go away easily.

Teenagers and adults can have acne. Some are mild, and some are moderate to severe. But then, acne treatment is always possible if you know the type of acne that you have.

Another advantage of doxycycline for treating acne is its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that are needed in eliminating bacteria that have been residing in the skin.

However, if you have severe acne and does not respond well to topical medications, oral treatment of doxycycline in pill form can be helpful, convenient, and much easier to administer. Doxycycline for acne treatment is easily absorbed by the body and can be taken with food.

Using doxycycline for acne treatment has its side effects, too. If you are on other medications such as sodium bicarbonate, magnesium, iron, calcium, and antacids, it is well-advised that doxycycline should not be taken with any of these. Doxycycline does not go well also with contraceptive pills (such as warfarin) and penicillin, another antibiotic.

Other side effects of Doxycycline:

• skin itching or rashes
• flaky skin
• skin gets sunburned easily, or severe sunburn
• facial swelling
• noticeable bruises
• swelling of the tongue or lips
• urinating less than normal
• severe diarrhea

Symptoms associated with the use of Doxycyline

• severe stomach pains
• severe diarrhea; stool may be watery and streaked with blood
• any or both of the above combined with fever

This being said, you should first consider if doxycyline is right for you as this acne treatment can affect the balance of bacteria in the bowels thus, causing severe diarrhea. Allergic reactions to doxycycline include skin rash, hives, and swelling of the face.

Allergic reactions definitely disturb air passages which lead to breathing difficulties. Doxycycline should NOT be used by pregnant and lactating women as this can cause teeth discoloration, bone problems with developing babies; this medicine can cause a child’s brain to swell, too.
